The houses are situated in the
heart of the mountains and can be used as a base for expeditions
either up to the crystal clear lakes and mountain tops with
views across into Spain, or down into the endless forests
and walkways. Whichever you chose, information is available
for the novice and the more experienced walker with maps giving
you all the information you could need. There are guide books
to help you enjoy every aspect of the mountains.
The chalet is also available for skiing holidays. In the winter
it's possible to ski from the house straight onto the skiing
slopes which are full of skiers up from the local village;
good skiing with a really friendly atmosphere! The resort
has sports shops for renting skiing-equipment, restaurants,
cafés, a food store and a discotheque. Ski-slopes for
all ages and abilities.
The nearest town is Lavelanet, where you can find larger supermarkets,
a cinema etc.

The local area of
the Ariège is fascinating. The cathar castles nearby
are steeped in history. Local restaurants serve the local
cuisine which, like the wine, is rich and delicious.
The area is also historically important and you can visit
numerous sites including the ancient caves excavated by prehistoric
man which dot the area. Some have cave paintings and are open
to the public, others you will have to climb up by yourself
to see. The Romans had a great affect on the area and their
art and architectural genius helps to make the villages really
unique.
