Avebury Stone Circle and its distinctive ditch
The path passes between the Stones
"The Cove" consists of these two impressive stones standing together in a field close to the A4361 road. The path passes through this field and you can walk around (or between) these stones
Overton Hill round barrows were probably much larger when they were first built, but they still make a striking feature. They stand in a field just beside The Ridgeway, where it meets the A4 road.
The Sanctuary was badly damaged by neglect and ploughing, so the original stones have been lost. However, their positions have been identified and marked by these concrete slabs.
West Kennet Long Barrow is impressive outside and inside. Access to the inside is unrestricted, but you may have to take turns if you arrive on a busy day.
Silbury Hill, viewed (left)from the top of West kennet Long Barrow and (below) from closer quarters. From the picture at bottom left you can see how close the hill is to the A4 road.
