Staonton Drew Stone Circle
|
Highlights of this walk
- Ancient stone circle
- Pretty riverside walk
- Stone-built villages
- Weir and mill
The river Chew is small and little known, but has shaped
this region of Somerset, just north of the Mendips, into a
smoothly sculptured and attractive valley. Some parts of this
walk are simply 'pretty'. The walk begins and ends close to
a large, prehistoric Stone Circle.
|
Safety and Difficulty
This walk is on relatively level ground with no major roads
and the biggest problem being the likelihood of muddy patches
near the river. Overall distance just over 3 miles. |

Car Parking
Stanton Drew has two car parks; one close to the Stone Circle,
which is reached by driving up a back lane leading to the parish
church and following the signs to the Stone Circle. The other
car park is close to 'The Cove', which is another group of prehistoric
megaliths. Either car park can be used for this walk. |
