Dorset LinksAbbotsbury - Abbotsbury is a popular village for both tourists and swans - and here are 9 trails to explore. Abbotsbury area A circular walk centered on Abbotsbury, including part of the 'Inland' coastal Path. Distance 9 - 10 miles Bournemouth - These two trails detail a route from the train station at Bournemouth to the Sandbanks Ferry at Poole where the coastal trails make their way around the county of Dorset. Cerne Abbas area Starting near Cerne Abbas goes right into rural Dorset . 5 or 8 miles. Cerne Abbas north A circular walk to the north of Cerne Abbas. About 8 miles. Chaldon Herring - While this map is labeled Chaldon Herring, it's only a nearby town. The single trail illustrated here identifies the popular durdle door just outside of Lulworth Cove with 5 excellent trail-side directional photos. Chickerell - A suburb of Weymouth, Chickerell has a few trails of its own. Here you will find one that passes through the army range near Tidmoor Cove. Dorchester area A shorter walk west of Dorchester. No shop, no pub, one tiny village and lots of chalk downs. Hardy country 'Far from the madding crowd'. Approx. 7½ miles. Durdle Door area Two overlapping walks exploring north and west of Durdle Door. Kimmeridge - A single trail that passes the Clavel Tower at Kimmeridge. This trail also marks the beginning of the Lulworth Range walks heading west. Kimmeridge Bay (start point) An energetic 9 mile walk including 3 miles of Coastal Path, with one steep hill. Marvellous coastal views when conditions are favourable. Langton Herring - A small village between Weymouth and Abbotsbury, there's three trails detailed here that make a quiet stroll through the countryside. Little Bredy - Three trails detailed here, one of which illustrates the Kingston Sone Circle. Lulworth - Location of the fossil forest and perhaps the most popular destination for those in search of the "Jurassic Coast", here are two trails that make their way around the Lulworth Cove. Lyme Regis - A town with steep hills and the famous Cobb, here are three trails that make their way along the coast and through the Undercliffs National Preserve. Milton Abbas and Bulbarrow Hill A fairly strenuous walk of 9 - 10 miles based on Milton Abbas with views over North Dorset from Bulbarrow Hill ( approx. 900 ft). Two steep hills. A shorter loop (5 - 6 miles) avoids the second steep hill. Both walks pass through extensive woodland making them especially attractive in the Autumn. Osmington - Here are three trails beginning at Weymouth, around Bowleaze Cove, and passing the Jordan Temple and the famous White Horse carved in the hillside. Ringstead Bay A circular walk including a short stretch of Coastal Path. About 7½ miles. Rodwell - A suburb of Weymouth, this map details three trails, one that passes the Sandsfoot Castle, another following the Rodwell Trail. Seatown - This map details a single trail that passes through the small village of Seatown. Seatown area A circular walk involving a short but energetic section of the Coastal Path followed by a long loop inland. About 6 miles. Studland - Two trails detail the coast at Studland, from Old Harry Rocks to Shell Bay. Swanage - Here is a trail map of the popular seaside resort of Swanage. Five trails detailed, everything from the lighthouse and Tilly Whim Caves, Durlston Castle, to the pier and coast at the center of town. Tyneham - Here is a map of the abandoned Tyneham Village. Photographs of the village and coast included. South West Coast Path This popular route runs through Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Somerset and is the longest of Britain's long distance paths, totalling 630 miles.Few people have time to walk the entire route, but you can walk sections for a day's or a week's enjoyment. It is a good way to see some of Dorset's most stunning scenery. Studland and Purbeck Starting from Studland this walk offers cliff tops, rolling chalk downs, woods and open heathland. With marvellous panoramic views this is one not to be missed. Main walk approx. 11 miles. Options for 9, 7½ or 6 miles. Worth Matravers to Dancing Ledge A 7½ mile walk from Worth including 3 miles of splendid cliff top walking along the Coast Path. One long steady climb, several short steep ones. Weymoutht - Eight Trails take you through the town of Weymouth. See the nature reserve, the sandy coast, nothe fort and more - as each map hosts trail-side directional photos of the area. West Bexington - Three trails detail the Abbotsbury Hill Fort and the pebbled coast of Chesil Beach. West Bay - Three trails detail the bay and surrounding area at West Bay. Worth Matravers - A part of Purbeck, this map illustrates the surrounding area of Worth Matravers from the Dancing Ledges to the Chapman's Pool. Wyke Regis - A suburb of Weymouth, this trail makes its way from Wyke Regis, northwest towards Chickerell. |
