Walks in the Peak District

Axe Edge Moor, and Three Shires Head - 7 miles
The area around Axe edge moor was once the coal mining district for Buxton. Nature has obscured most of the workings, but there is still quite a lot to see. This is quite a lonely walk, even though you are never far from humanity. The walk is graded moderate.

Big Moor - 7 miles. Big Moor was farmland in the Neolithic, and some evidence of this remains to this day. It is also a classic edge walk. On the easy side of moderate.

Circular walk including Dovedale - 6 miles
A short (6 mile) walk through Dovedale based on the River Dove.

Deepdale - 4.5 miles, or 7 with detour. A walk through some of the lesser-known dales of the White Peak District. Fairly easy, with a few steep climbs.

Dovedale, Hartington, Milldale, River Dove - 8 miles
A walk along the River Dove from Dovedale to Hartington, mostly on land owned by the National Trust.

Hathersage Moor - 5 miles
Hathersage Moor lies on the eastern edge of of the white peak, although it shares more characteristics with the dark peak further north. The walks comes in two halves, the moorland on the higher ground, and the wooded gorge lower down. The walk is graded easy and moderate.

Peak Forest - 4 miles. A walk through one of the major lead mining areas of the Peak District. Easy to moderate depending on the weather.

The Edges Above Baslow -7 miles.
The edges above Baslow on the eastern moorland has seen its fair share of activity over the last few thousand years. Add to this some of the most striking scenery in the area, and you get a great walk. The walk is graded moderate.

Upper Dovedale - 10 miles. Dovedale is famous for striking limestone cliffs, and lots of people. This walk through upper Dovedale has the scenery, and the history, but a lot fewer people. Moderate

Upper Dovedale and the High Peak Trail - 10 miles
This walk links the popular high peak trail with the upper valley of the river Dove.
