Boot
This tiny village nestles
prettily under the lower slopes of England's highest mountain range.
The old Eskdale water mill is run as a visitor attraction.
Ravenglass
and Eskdale Railway Built in
the nineteenth century to serve local mines, this railway declined
so badly by the early twentieth century that it was forcibly closed
due to neglect of safety standards. It was revived due to the efforts
of enthusiasts and reopened as a tourist attraction and now draws
large numbers of enthusiastic children and adults.
Stanley
Force named after the Stanley family, who were occupants
of Dalegarth Hall, this 40-foot waterfall became a popular attraction
during the Victorian era.
Doctor's Bridge
This ancient packhorse bridge, which crosses the River Esk, makes
a fine picture.
