The ascent of Castle Crag from the National
Trust car park in Rosthwaite, Cumbria, offers some challenges
but the 1 1/2 mile walk to the summit can be achieved in an
hour without hurrying. It provides wonderful views over some
of the prettiest scenes in The Lake District. |
Safety and Difficulty
This is a short walk (1 1/2 miles to the summit) and you
can get there and back in a couple of hours without hurrying.
But take care on some sections where steep slopes are covered
by loose stones and it is easy to lose your balance. Wear
good shoes or boots and take care!

Road Directions
Follow the A5289 Borrowdale road (south from Keswick or
north from Honister/Seathwaite) and turn in to Rosthwaite
village. The NT car park is on your right as you come into
the village.

Car Parking
Use the National Trust car park in the middle of Rosthwaite
village. Public parking charges are reasonable but, if you
are a NT member, you can park free of charge.
